Compass not working with pawscout

It seems that pawscout is not properly accessing my Moto G Stylus compass sensor.  I suspected this when I could not figure out which direction to walk to get closer to my cat -- the little arrow on my location symbol would not point north.  So, I installed a compass app, and it, too, did not work.  I installed a second compass app (compass only) and it works.  So, there is a right way to access my phone's compass, and pawscout and the first compass app do not do it the right way.  Does pawscout have an app upgrade for my cell phone?
